Zak Lovelace netted a last minute winner for the Young Gers at Ferguson Park in a match that was played in blustery conditions.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, McCallum reflected on a game where his side were pegged back twice before prevailing: “We’re pleased to win the game, but we’re wanting more in terms of performance.
“It wouldn’t have been the most enjoyable game to watch in terms of fluency and control. The guys have done well to get themselves in a position to win the game in the end having been ahead twice and giving up the lead at a less than ideal time – just before half time and just after we had gotten the second goal.
“I thought Lewis Budinauckas was excellent, in parts of the second half particularly he kept us in the game. We managed to get the winner with Zak Lovelace towards the end. I think the lads are a bit frustrated because they know that’s not the level that they want to be at. We want to make sure our levels are higher than what we achieved today.”
McCallum believes his players will benefit hugely from the various challenges that came their way throughout the 90 minutes.
He continued: “They will benefit hugely. We’ve not played now since mid-September so we’ve had a few weeks off with lads on international duty. Every team will react in different ways.
“We’ve challenged the lads on the areas that we could better, at half time and after the game. We’ll look back on it and now we’re looking forward. I’ve seen the levels at points this season and the lads know themselves certain performances will be much better and we’ll get to that again.”
