Debut Delight For Jon

JON McLAUGHLIN could hardly have asked for a better Rangers debut than today where he kept a clean sheet and Gers picked up three points against St Mirren.

In-truth, McLaughlin was largely untroubled against the Buddies at Ibrox, and watched on as his side ran out comfortable winners.

He told RangersTV: "It's a great start and a great debut to have. The lads have done the business there today and it is great to be a part of it.

"We had the vast majority of the possession, and it was going to be a game of discipline and concentration and continuing to do the right things from front to back.

"The lads did that well and had a lot of the possession and a lot of the ball in and around their 18-yard box and we had to work out how to break it down and stay focused and maintain that concentration.

"When the team have kept the ball and have as much possession as they do, chances for the opposition come at a premium.

"It is very important that your back four and yourself are there when called upon to make sure there was nothing sloppy given away easy to the opposition at the other end which gives us that platform to go and win the game later on."

McLaughlin fitted seamlessly into Gers’ style of play, releasing the ball quickly from the back to set up the attack.

He continued: "The defenders and myself are going to have a lot of the ball when they sit off and let you come onto them like that, but it is important to keep that momentum and that speed of the ball across the pitch when you are switching it around to keep them moving around to make it as difficult as possible and give yourselves the best chance of breaking that block."

He also cast his eye ahead to St Johnstone on Wednesday night at Ibrox, adding: "I imagine it will be similar again to Aberdeen and today against St Mirren, and again against St Johnstone, we know what we are going to face, but hopefully we are showing that we are up for that task and we have more than enough in that dressing room and in that squad to worry anyone."
