Devine’s second half goal saw the young Gers collect three points in a challenging match against Stephen Aitken’s side.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV after the game, the Light Blues defender discussed his thoughts on the fixture. He said: “I thought it was a really tough win, we had to dig deep right till the end, but it just shows why East Kilbride have been near the top of the table for the last few seasons. They’ve got experienced players and they made it really difficult for us to break down.”
Devine continued to highlight the development the team are getting to play against experienced teams in the Lowland League campaign, he added: “It was really important for us to go out and get the three points with a young squad against a very experienced team, but I think it just shows we had the real grit between our teeth to get the win in the end.”
The Ger scored the winning goal of the game and his first of the season in Sunday’s match which was made even more special having his daughter in the stands. He added “I didn’t even realise it went in to be honest; I cut inside and had a lucky shot, and it went in thankfully. For her [his daughter] to be here was the best feeling ever especially after getting the winning goal.”
The young team now turn their attention to Wednesday night as they prepare to face Dumbarton in the Challenge Cup, the defender underlined how the squad are preparing for that match. He continued: “We’ll take Monday to recover properly and take each day as it comes but we are really looking forward to the game.
“I think it will be a difficult challenge for us as Dumbarton are a couple of leagues above but if we perform the way we did today we can get the result.”
