On his first league start, the midfielder had the impact he wanted as his unstoppable strike gave Philippe Clement’s men the lead at McDiarmid Park, before James Tavernier converted two second-half penalties.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Diomande said: “I am really happy to have my first goal at this amazing club and I am looking forward to more of this. I saw the space and I saw there was room to strike, and I took the strike with my weaker foot, it went really well.
“The manager said to go and enjoy the game and play forward more so I tried to do that. I tried to play forward to the strikers when I had a chance and I think I did what I was supposed to do to help the team and get the three points.”
On the performance, Diomande said the three points were the main thing as Rangers adapted to the pitch in Perth. He continued: “We came here to win, and we got that. The pitch was difficult to play but the most important thing was to get the three points and we adapted to the pitch. We knew we couldn’t play our normal football, but we played the style we needed to get the three points.”
Reflecting on his first few weeks at the club, Diomande continued: “It has been amazing, I feel really welcome by the people around the club and the fans and I am really happy to be here.
“I am really grateful every time. I want to show my contribution on the pitch and the fans are the 12th man on the pitch, so I try to contribute and make them happy and that’s by winning games and doing my best for the team.”
