Douglas Park & John Bennett Toast 55th Title Win

CHAIRMAN of the Champions, Douglas Park, and Deputy Chairman, John Bennett are tonight toasting Rangers 55th Scottish title.

The Light Blues have clinched the SPFL Premiership crown with six matches still to play, their first league title in 10 years.

It has been a long, arduous journey from Division Three to Champions, and Chairman Mr Park is one of the happiest men anywhere tonight

"It's absolutely unbelievable,” he told RangersTV. “They have achieved 55 and won the league and I couldn't be more happy for the club, the supporters and everyone.

"It is absolutely fantastic. It has been a hard, hard road getting there - but we have got there and we obviously want this to be the start of many.

"It was worth it. The time and the effort, it was worth it. We started off on a journey, we started to come through it - its the first title and we have got where we want to be, and now we need to try and do our best to make sure there are many more."

Mr Bennett added: "It's everything. It's just everything. It's everything to the Chairman's family, to my family and every Rangers family across the land and every other land - we will find them everywhere.

"This is for the Rangers family - a big, big Rangers family. This means everything to me - I know how Douglas' family are right now and I know how the players are right now.

"This is absolutely everything. This is a milestone - a major, major milestone that we all craved and we did it, we achieved it.

"We knew in our hearts we would achieve this - we spoke about it at the AGM and we knew where we were going, but we are Rangers - this is Glasgow Rangers.

"This is Glasgow Rangers and you don't even need to say any more than that and you keep going, you keep winning."

Mr Park took time to laud the work of manager, Steven Gerrard, saying: "Absolutely magnificent. He has done a magnificent job, and as I have said before in another interview, he has brought standards back to the club - standards inside the club and standards outside the club.

"Every thanks I have got goes to him for the job he has done, and the players, who have been absolutely magnificent.

"We couldn't ask for any more - as John says, it's the Rangers family, we will all enjoy it - we will certainly enjoy it until the start of next season anyway - and then we go again.

"So let's go."

Mr Bennett also took time to praise the Rangers supporters, beaming: "Enjoy it to the full! I know they will - they will enjoy this to the full because nobody deserves this more than the supporters of Glasgow Rangers.

"Steven, last night, thanked us and thanked the board for everything - we reciprocated that to Steven, but we thank the fans - we thank them for everything.

"From that day in Brechin, that journey that we began and that we were forced to begin, we have completed that journey and we go again."

After a superb campaign so far, Gers’ win over St Mirren yesterday put them on the verge of glory, with results elsewhere today meaning they can mathematically no longer be caught with incredibly six matches still to play.

It’s title number 55 for the club – the most of any football club in the world – and the first in 10 years following one of the most arduous decades in the club’s history.

There is little doubt today’s success can be put down to the unbelievable loyalty of the Rangers support – you stood by this club in its hour of need, and you deserve this success as much as every member of Steven Gerrard’s players and backroom staff, Ross Wilson, Douglas Park and the club’s board.

They have been simply outstanding this season, and are still unbeaten and have a Last 16 UEFA Europa League tie with Slavia Prague to look forward to on Thursday night.

With 32 matches played, Gers have accumulated 88 points through 28 wins and four draws. 77 goals have been scored, and, unbelievably at this stage of the season, just nine have been conceded.
