Sterling provided the assist for Emmanuel Fernandez as his goal was the difference in a 1-0 victory against Hibernian at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV at full-time, Sterling said: “It is a game where there was not much in it, we were not really playing well but you have just got to get through it.
“There are going to be tough moments throughout the season, but I think we dug deep and tried our best, so it was just important to get the win.
“We are coming into a period where there are going to be a lot of tough games, it is good to get the three points and now we look to continue to build on it. Even if the performances aren’t great, it is about getting the three points at the end of the day.”
On making his return he said: “It was good, and I could hear the fans clapping. Obviously, it would’ve been better if the team played better but as long as I get through it without any injuries then I am happy.
“I knew before the game it was going to be 60 minutes today, whereas maybe in previous years I would've come in and played straight 90 and have to play 90 again. We have got a plan, and I think it is going really well. think he has got the boys livened up a bit as well so hopefully it continues that way.
“I felt comfortable, I don’t really think they threatened us, a clean sheet is all you can ask for and then getting the goal even though it was a scrappy game, but we take the points.”
