For many, a loan move has presented an opportunity to gain some valuable minutes on the pitch, while several Academy players have taken their first steps in senior football this term.
Here’s a review of how those players fared across the campaign.
Ianis Hagi – Alaves
Ianis made the season-long loan switch to Alaves in August as the La Liga outfit loaded their midfield arsenal in hope of a top half finish in the Spanish top-flight.
Indeed, the Romanian midfielder went straight into the side as he made six straight appearances prior to the October international break.
His first assist, meanwhile, arrived later in the same month in a narrow defeat for his loan side at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.
Ianis was also prolific for Alaves as they reached the last 16 of the Copa del Rey, netting twice in an emphatic 10-0 win early in the competition against Deportivo Murcia.
Opportunities dried up for the 25-year-old in the second half of the campaign, yet he made three successive appearances to close out the season, including a start in the clash against champions Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu as Alaves finished 10th in the final league standings.

Sam Lammers – FC Utrecht
Sam joined FC Utrecht on loan in January and wasted precious little time in finding the back of the net on a regular basis.
The 27-year-old registered four goal contributions in his first five appearances for the Eredivisie side as they began 2024 with a seven-game winning streak.
After a 2-0 away defeat to Ajax in March, Sam then broke a league record by embarking on a seven-game goalscoring run of his own, which included a crucial brace in a 3-2 away triumph over Heerenveen.
The forward scooped the Eredivisie Player of the Month award for April off the back of his prolific goalscoring form as FC Utrecht ended the campaign in seventh place.

Jose Cifuentes – Cruzeiro
Jose joined Cruzeiro on a year-long loan in February and took some time to get himself up to full fitness.
The midfielder has been reduced to substitute appearances in the league, while he has featured regularly in Cruzeiro’s Copa Sudamericana exploits.

Adam Devine – Motherwell
Adam joined Motherwell on loan in January and enjoyed a valuable three-and-a-half months vying for his spot in Stuart Kettlewell’s side.
Indeed, the 21-year-old netted his first goal for the club in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Pittodrie in February, enjoying a regular stint further up the pitch from his typical full-back responsibilities.
The Scotland Under-21 international started and played the full 90 minutes in a vital 3-1 victory away to Livingston, while he also played the first 45 minutes as Motherwell recovered from 2-0 down to overcome Dundee at Dens Park.
Although injury curtailed his involvement in the post-split fixtures, Adam returned to feature as a second half substitute in the Steelmen’s 5-1 away victory over Ross County earlier this month.

Arron Lyall – Airdrieonians
Arron made the loan switch to Airdrieonians in January as the Diamonds looked to continue their push for promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
The 20-year-old midfielder was immediately involved as he made a string of substitution appearances, before he was given the nod from the off in a 5-2 victory at home to Arbroath where he netted his first goal in senior football.
Rhys McCabe continued to show his faith in the youngster as the season wore on, with Arron starting the final three games of the regular campaign.
Partick Thistle were the Diamonds’ opponents in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Premiership play-offs, with the 20-year-old featuring as a second half substitute in the 2-2 first leg draw.
Such was McCabe’s trust in Arron that he was given the nod to start from the off in the absence of captain Adam Frizzell in the return leg at Firhill, although a second half strike from the on-loan midfielder wasn’t enough for Airdrieonians to overcome their Glasgow opponents.

Jay Hogarth – Dumbarton
Jay spent the second half of the season with Dumbarton as the Sons looked to strengthen their bid for promotion to League One.
The 20-year-old was thrown straight into the fold as the League Two side suffered a run of just one win in seven games across January and February.
However, Stevie Farrell’s side turned their form on its head, with Jay’s impressive form between the posts providing the backbone of the side’s upturn in fortunes.
Indeed, after a 3-2 away defeat at East Fife in March, the Sons embarked on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league which secured their place in the play-offs.
Within that, Jay recorded five consecutive clean sheets as Dumbarton prepared for their League One play-off semi-final against Stirling Albion.
The Binos were dispatched 2-1 on aggregate, with the 20-year-old registering a shutout in the return leg at Forthbank, before the Sons kicked off their winner-takes-all showdown with Spartans with a 2-1 triumph at the Rock.
From there, Dumbarton kept their composure to seal promotion to League One and spark scenes of jubilation at full-time in the return leg at Ainslie Park.

James Graham – Annan Athletic and Dumbarton
James spent the first half of the campaign with Annan Athletic and registered his first assist in senior football almost instantly when he sprung from the substitutes bench at half-time in a 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts.
The 19-year-old was handed subsequent starts prior to the September international break, although he was limited to substitute appearances as the first half of the campaign progressed.
It was a difficult period for Annan as they dropped to the foot of the table, with the side failing to register a victory for a little over five months.
The forward returned to Rangers in January and made the loan switch to Dumbarton to join Gers B teammate Jay Hogarth.
And the teenager soon registered his first goal in senior football as he netted in the Sons’ emphatic 6-2 victory away to Spartans in March.
James was similarly on the scoresheet in Dumbarton’s final home game of the regular season as he scored a leveller in the dying embers of his side’s 2-2 draw with Elgin City.
His energy from the bench was invaluable for the Sons, featuring in all four play-off games as he celebrated promotion in his first campaign in senior football.

Lewis Budinauckas – Stranraer
Lewis made the loan switch to Stranraer at the start of the season and established himself as a fan favourite at Stair Park.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper made over 30 appearances for the League Two side in a campaign where Scott Agnew’s side successfully fought off relegation to the Lowland League.
Lewis was an ever-present and captained the side in their clash against eventual champions Stenhousemuir in January, such is the faith that his manager and teammates had in the youngster.
He also gained experience in the Scottish Cup as Stranraer defeated Civil Service Strollers before falling to a narrow defeat at the hands of Airdrieonians.
Despite a last day victory over Stenhousemuir, the Blues were condemned to a SPFL Pyramid play-off against East Kilbride from the Lowland League.
After playing out a 2-2 first leg draw at K-Park, Lewis helped Stranraer to a 3-1 extra time triumph at Stair Park, in which the 21-year-old made a string of impressive stops to repel the Lanarkshire side and preserve his loan side’s place in League Two.

Kristian Webster – Cumbernauld Colts
Kristian moved on loan to Lowland League side Cumbernauld Colts in August in what was his first taste of senior football as an 18-year-old.
Playing in a variety of roles in both defence and midfield, the teenager wrestled his way into the side in October and never looked back.
Indeed, between September and March, his side’s only defeats came at the hands of runaway league leaders East Kilbride.
Kristian was vital to his side’s form and played every minute in the league from mid-October onwards, with the exception of an illness-related absence against East Kilbride in January.
Given his importance to the team, it was little surprise to see the teenager scoop the Board and Committee Player of the Year award at the conclusion of a positive campaign.

Jacob Pazikas – Civil Service Strollers
It was an impressive campaign between the posts for Jacob as he made his first loan switch in senior football.
The 19-year-old was forced to contend with a finger injury that he sustained in August, ruling the youngster out until December where he made his return against Hearts B.
However, he went straight back into the team and made over 20 appearances as the Edinburgh side enjoyed an impressive seventh placed finish.
His presence between the posts was crucial to a three-game winning run at the turn of the year which culminated in an emphatic 7-0 victory over Gala Fairydean Rovers.
Similarly, Strollers closed out their campaign with five straight wins, with Jacob conceding just two goals in the process.
