Rangers entertain Hibernian in the league at Ibrox for the 155th time today, with only Celtic (166) and Hearts (161) more frequent visitors on league duty. Including the league play-off game in 2015, Rangers have won 107 of the previous 154 encounters, losing on 21 occasions and 26 games ending even. In the process, the Light Blues have scored 354 goals and conceded 130.
A win or a draw today will see Rangers break a record in the fixture that has stood for over 100 years. Since losing 2-1 to Hibs at Ibrox in February 2018, Rangers have embarked on a run of 21 league games without defeat against the Easter Road side, made up of 15 wins and six draws, equalling a record that ran from October 1912 to October 1922 when the Light Blues clocked up 16 wins and 5 draws. Remarkably, the first four matches of the current sequence were all draws with Rangers winning 15 of the last 17 league meetings between the sides.
Despite enjoying an unbeaten league run over Hibernian in the last few years, a clean sheet today would mark the first time in more than 12 years that Rangers have had three consecutive shutouts against Hibs in the league, having already won 4-0 at Ibrox in October and 3-0 at Easter Road in January in the previous two league fixtures this season. The longest run of consecutive clean sheets in league matches between the sides stands at five, achieved by Rangers between October 1983 and September 1984.
Having already scored in each of the previous two league meetings between the sides this season, a goal today from Cyriel Dessers would make him only the fourth Rangers player since 2000 to score in three consecutive league games against Hibernian, following on from Dado Prso between Aug 2004 and Feb 2005, Kris Boyd between Oct 2009 and Feb 2010 and, most recently, Jermain Defoe, who scored five goals in a three-match run between May and December of 2019. Jason Cummings has also managed goals in three consecutive matches for Hibs in this period. The last player to score in four consecutive league games between the sides was Ally McCoist, who scored six goals in four games between Oct 1991 and Mar 1992.
