Since meeting for the first time on league duty in September 2016, a 0-0 draw in Dingwall, the clubs have now met on 20 occasions in the league with Rangers still unbeaten, winning 16 contests and drawing the other four. Three of the drawn matches took place in the first three matches in season 2016/17. Over the period, the Light Blues have scored 51 goals and conceded 14.
There were a total of 23 goals scored in the four matches played between the clubs in season 2021/22, 15 for Rangers and eight for Ross County, with six goals scored in three of the fixtures and five in the other. However, the subsequent four games saw defences tightened up with only ten goals scored in total, nine for Rangers and one for Ross County over the three matches played last season and the one played earlier this term.
When the sides last lined up against each other on league duty at Ibrox in February 2023, 13 of the 24 players who had scored in the fixture for Rangers were still at the club. However, despite two new players making their way onto the list since then, there are now only eight players from the 26 who have found the net against Ross County still plying their trade at Ibrox. Of these, James Tavernier has the most goals, the Gers captain currently sitting on five and a goal today would see him equal Alfredo Morelos’ record of six league goals in the fixture. Jordan White of Ross County could also lay claim to the title of the fixture’s top scorer if he finds the net as he too is on five goals.
There have been 85 different players who have played a league fixture for Rangers against Ross County over the 20 matches played to date. James Tavernier has only missed two of the fixtures and leads the way with 18 appearances while Connor Goldson is next on 14. Of the players still at the club, only Borna Barisic has also played in at least half of the fixtures, playing ten times, while John Lundstram and Ryan Jack could both add to their eight games to date. Three players - Greg Docherty, Amad Diallo and, most recently, Nicolas Raskin - have made their Rangers debut against Ross County.
To date, there has yet to be a hat-trick scored in a league match between Rangers and Ross County and there have only been four doubles recorded in the 20 games played. Two of these occurred in the same match where Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack both scored twice in a 4-0 win at Victoria Park in October 2019 with Morelos having previously scored a double in a 3-1 win at the same venue in August 2017 and Antonio Colak netting the most recent brace at Ibrox in August 2022.
