The young Gers will go toe-to-toe with the League One side at Cappielow Park, kick-off 7:45pm, as they look go one step further in the competition following last year’s showing.
Speaking exclusively to the official Rangers website, Fraser previewed the clash in Greenock: “We’re all really excited for it. It’s another big tie for us, a really good opponent who are in a strong league. Myself and all the boys are looking forward to it and hopefully we can progress again.
“It’s a huge positive for us [to play in front of fans]. It’s a great opportunity for fans to come out in their numbers and support the boys because we really appreciate it.
“It gives you a lot of confidence in the sense that we need to try and entertain them. It gives you a little spur when you need it in games, if something isn’t going right and they begin cheering, and it provides a good feeling to the team.
“We know that fans spend their hard-earned money to come out and watch us. We really appreciate it, and they give up their time to come along. We just want to repay them by doing our best on the pitch and entertaining them.”
The Light Blues can certainly take plenty of encouragement from their previous two displays in the competition this season.
Spartans were dispatched in the opening round in a comprehensive 3-0 triumph at Ainslie Park, before an injury time winner from Zak Lovelace powered the Gers to victory last time out away to Stenhousemuir.
Fraser continued: “We’re playing against seasoned professionals in the competition, whether it’s Championship, League One or League Two, and they’ve all played the game for a number of years.
“We know that we’re a young team and we want to go out and win games, but we’re also aware that if we don’t put the ball in the back of the net then teams can punish you.
“[Spartans] was a really good night and a top performance from us. It was obviously very nice to get on the scoresheet, but the main thing is that we were excellent as a collective. We nullified their threat going forward, and I felt we were ruthless when we attacked. I felt we dominated overall.
“Stenhousemuir came out of the traps pretty quickly and they had a couple of chances, but once we rode that we built ourselves into the game. We really showed how we wanted to play in the game, kept the ball, and created chances. We didn’t get the goals we wanted early on, but we kept chipping away and thankfully got the goals in the end.”
