An Alfredo Morelos double, a James Tavernier super free-kick, a fine Connor Goldson header on a wonderful Borna Barisic ball and a strike from Jermain Defoe on his return secured safe passage for Gers in Gibraltar tonight.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Gerrard said: "It was professional job done. That was the plan coming here - we wanted to get to get a win and a clean sheet and move onto the next fixture because the next couple of weeks are going to be a lot more important and a lot more difficult.
"So it was about getting through and we scored five good goals and kept a clean sheet and really, we didn't get out of first gear.
"I thought the goals were outstanding and it was nice to have the luxury to give people opportunities to play.
"Young Nathan again got another run out which was good experience for him, so we will take the positives and move on.
"But the all-round performance, we didn't get out of first-gear."
The first three goals on the night from the Light Blues came from set-pieces, with the manager continuing: "I think we have looked really dangerous at set-pieces throughout pre-season and we have taken it into the season.
"We want that to continue - we want Connor and we want big Fil and Leon and George to be a threat from crosses, but sometimes you need moments of magic and I thought Tav provided that with the first goal which was great to see."
Morelos’ double took him to a sensational 20 European goals for Rangers – just one behind the club’s all-time European record holder Ally McCoist.
On that, Gerrard added: "He is a top striker and he is an incredible finisher as you see, especially the second goal, but the first goal is just as good for me because he attacks the goal frame and I'm sure Ally McCoist watching that will be very happy.”
In keeping with the managers relentless desire for improvement and his demand for better, he continued: "There is a big difference between Alfredo and Ally McCoist - Ally McCoist won trophies here.
"He was successful here so we can't speak about those two players in the same breath - not yet."

The one moment of concern on the night for Gers was Kemar Roofe being replaced just before half-time, but a relaxed Gerrard updated: "There is an issue, but we are hoping its not a big one. He said he could feel a bit of tightness, so hopefully he has done the sensible thing and told us before it has got worse.
"We will have a look at it in the next day or so, but hopefully, fingers-crossed, he should be okay."
