Despite being unbeaten in 27 league games this season, the Gers boss knows they will need a strong performance on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference he explained: “We expect a tough game like we always get there. We only have to go back to last year to realise that we can't go there and underestimate any opponent in this league.
“We are going to go there with respect and try to continue our form because we are in a fantastic place, confidence is high, the team spirit is high and we are really looking forward to this game.
“We obviously know before a ball is kicked we are going to be playing on astroturf but we prepare like we do for every other game. There's obviously three of them in the league so we have had enough experience to be prepared for the environment and the surface.
“Brian and his team always come and have a go, he normally goes with two up-front and they come and play with energy and try to cause as many problems as they can.
“We have never really faced a Hamilton team where it has been a complete block for the full game.
“There is a lot of responsibility on the boys in terms of the attacking players to go and be creative and be inventive and try to be the difference over the 90 minutes.
“Having said that you can win a game in many different ways, it could be a set-piece or it could be a direct bit of play - there's different ways to cause problems.
“My full focus has not necessarily been on what Hamilton are going to do but how we are going to go and take the game to Hamilton and try to be as creative as we can.”
Jermain Defoe will miss Sunday’s match with a calf issue, but Gerrard said there could be an opportunity for new signings Scott Wright and Jack Simpson to be involved.
He added: “Jack has trained with the team for the first time today, we had to be a bit more patient with him because there was a difference in terms of the Covid testing.
“Scott has had one or two sessions now but quite possibly could see both at the weekend. I haven't picked my squad yet. We have prepared for Hamilton the last couple of days and we have one more session tomorrow but they are both fit well and ready and available which is a real positive for me.”
Gerrard said he has been pleased with the variety from his squad so far this season with work on the training ground paying off in matches.
He continued: “Work on the training ground has helped us in terms of our variety, having different tools and different ways to break teams down.
“We have improved massively in terms of set-plays, and I think people are standing up at big times and creating big moments for us.
“You look at Ianis the other night, that is a very important goal for us, equally as important as Alfredo's was the week before at Hibs.
“Throughout the season we have had the goals spread out around the squad and that tells me that we are in a really good place and we are not relying on just one or two individuals.”
