Gerrard Praises Morelos After Record-Equalling Goal

STEVEN GERRARD praised Alfredo Morelos after the Colombian striker's winning header against Lech Poznan took him to 21 European goals for Rangers, matching Ally McCoist's club record.

El Bufalo started tonight's Europa League Group D game on the bench but on 67 minutes, just five minutes after replacing Kemar Roofe, he powered a brilliant header into the net from Borna Barisic's sensational cross.

Gerrard was thrilled that the goal meant so much not only to Morelos but for Rangers, with the club now on six points after two group games.

Speaking post-match, the manager said: "It's fantastic for him from a personal point of view. Alfredo's a top class player, a top class goalscorer, and it's fantastic that he's still here.

"I think it was fantastic build-up play [for the goal]. We've switched the play and Glen Kamara has been outstanding all night.

"He's got it out to Borna who has had a touch out of his feet and it's an absolutely wonderful delivery. It's what attacking midfielders or attacking strikers dream of.

"I'm really happy with the result. It's three big points to put us on six and it puts us in a real good place in the group.

"There is still a lot of hard work to go and we've got two real tough games now against Benfica. But we'll be ready when they come around and we will give it our best shot and see what we a can get out of those games as well.

"But I'm really pleased with the players. It was a strong performance, a professional performance, and it was always going to be a game after the first 15 or 20 minutes where it was going to be a bit cagey.

"At half-time we said to the players 'we are in a game here, we're in a tough game' but when we get into the right areas of the pitch and we find the quality, let's go and execute and we did. It was a wonderful goal and then we controlled the game and seen it out really well."
