The Light Blues boss watched on as Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier netted to cancel out a Michael O’Halloran opener to earn another Scottish Premiership victory.
Speaking at full-time to RangersTV, Gerrard explained: "It is a very important win and the players deserve a lot of credit as this is not an easy place to come.
"We are all well aware of the success they had last year, and I said before the game that they can be stuffy, organised and difficult to play against and the pitch is getting dryer and the grass is long - things are against you, but credit to the boys, they have shown real, good fight, have competed throughout the game and we were asked a question today and champions normally find the answers, and that is what we have done, so credit to the boys.
"We are not champions by fluke - we have had to build this and we have had to work ever so hard to come together and become a team and a squad.
"As I said before the game, teams win you three points in games but squads will win you important titles and that is the reason why we are champions as we have got that unity, that togetherness and have got good players.
"We are starting to come to places like this, when we are asked tough questions, and we are finding the answers which is pleasing from my point of view."
Tavernier’s strike for the winner 10 minutes from time was phenomenal, and the manager continued: "The second goal is just world class. There is a lot of noise on the outside about Nathan Patterson and when he is going to play and when he is going to break in - he is a terrific player and is going to get a lot of games of football for us.
"But, we also have to respect the fact that we have got the best full-back in Scotland. Scotland have got the best right-back in Nathan Patterson, but we have got the best full-back in Scotland and I am very lucky."
The one disappointment on the day was Fil Helander being stretchered off in the second half, with news to follow on him in the coming days.
His replacement, Jack Simpson, did a super job, however, keeping the door shut for the three points and Gerrard added: "Jack Simpson is ready. I had a chat with Jack a couple of days ago and I said, 'look, you keep doing what you are doing and this is on me, as I can't find him enough appearances at the moment.
"But, his opportunity might come on the back of this. Hopefully Fil is going to pull through, and we obviously get Connor [Goldson] back pretty quickly, but Jack is ready.
"He is a great pro and has been fantastic since the first day of pre-season and is learning all the time.
"I am pleased I have got four top centre-halves."
