Gerrard: The Team Will Remain Focused and Ready

STEVEN GERRARD insists Rangers will remain ‘focused and ready’ as they prepare to face St Mirren tomorrow afternoon.

With a 100 per cent record at Ibrox this season, the manager says Gers are ready to give their all as they look to continue the impressive run.

Fresh from being announced as February’s Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month, Gerrard spoke to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning.

He said: “The important thing for us is to remain focused and try and get this over the line as quick as we can and that obviously starts with St Mirren.

“It will be a tough test we know they will be a stubborn team and difficult to play against.

“They are the only team that have managed to beat us this season so we are ready for that challenge. We are looking forward to it and the team will remain focused and ready.

“We are in a good place, we have got a real strong home record and we want to pile everything into this.”

Leon Balogun is set to be back in the squad for tomorrow afternoon’s match after recovering from a quad injury. Gers will still be without the injured Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack, James Tavernier and Nikola Katic.

When asked about the recent form of Alfredo Morelos, Gerrard was full of praise for the striker as well as the whole squad’s ability to adapt to challenges and injuries.

He continued: “With every player form is only temporary but class is permanent so you know if someone is having a sticky patch and they are a top player then it is only going to be a matter of time before their form returns.

“Alfredo hasn't been as prolific as last year in terms of numbers but I think we are seeing a lot of maturity not just in his football but off the pitch as well, his contribution of late has been really important for the team.

“If you look at the whole season so far the team has been the star, we have managed to cope without any individual with injuries and suspensions.

“The size of the squad and the quality of the squad has coped extremely well and we are not reliant on any individual and that is the important thing.

“We have made progress as a group so it is a fantastic place to be in as the manager and we are really looking forward to all the challenges that are in front of us.

“I think the mentality has been bang on since the first day of pre-season. We really set that marker, we were getting victories, clean sheets and the stuff off the pitch in terms of the bonding.

“Everything just fell into place and we have built on that as the season has gone along.

“To be a successful team it is not just about having talented players it is about all the different factors that the team needs and one of the main things is spirit and fight and we have got that in abundance at the moment.

“I think the best thing in this team is we find a way and even when we are not ourselves or we are having an off day we refuse to be beat.”
