The B team coach believes that his side will be in for a tough challenge this weekend as the young Gers prepare to face the Lothian club in the Lowland League campaign.
As the top two teams in the league face each other on Saturday afternoon, Gilmour spoke exclusively to Rangers TV ahead of the exciting fixture. He said: “Like all the games that we have played, this will be another tough test for us.
“All the teams have brought something different to each fixture so far this season. Bonnyrigg are a good side, they’re at top of the league on good merit and they’ve had a lot of good performances and results.
“Facing one of the best teams within this league will be a challenge. It’s not just about dealing with the challenges that they present but we also want to impose what we as a team can do for the game as well.”
Gilmour followed up by highlighting the impact supporters have had on how the squad approach and deal with the game. He continued: “Regardless of if it’s been a home or away fixture, the fans and the level of support that they have shown turning up for the games have added spice to the match.
“For us travelling to different grounds is another step in the right direction that these players can go and perform in front of a crowd. And likewise, our opponents’ supporters will be expecting a performance from their team and that is a challenge that we will need to rise to and deal within the moment.”
Following the return of several players from international duty this week, Gilmour expressed his delight for the youngsters involved and their continued development. As the team prepare for a busy period with a number of fixtures across several competitions, the B team boss said: “It's great to see the lads being selected for international duty, it’s part of their development journey. It comes with the territory of playing for a club like Rangers, going to maximise your opportunity to show why you should be playing at international level and to go get the experiences that come with it.
“I think the lads are excited to get back into the programme, it’s been a few weeks off in terms of games but has been a busy period for many of our international boys.
“It’s great to welcome them back and we’re looking forward to the upcoming fixtures and going into a schedule that will be quite taxing, but it is one that we are all looking forward to.”
