The B team assistant coach said that the team showed real variation throughout all areas of the pitch to gain three points in the league campaign.
Gilmour spoke exclusively to RangersTV following the squad’s winning performance against Dougie Samuel’s side today and emphasised that it was the reaction they were looking for after Tuesday evening’s defeat against Cove Rangers.
He said: “Overall, it was pleasing when you look at it. I thought their reaction of the players how we asked the players to be after Tuesday nights game, it was good to see them react in a positive manner.
“It’s very pleasing that the assists and the goals are coming from a variation throughout the squad, it’s important that we have that, so we aren’t relying on certain positions. It was pleasing that we were able to take the opportunities that we managed to create for ourselves.
“They played with real hunger and desire to go win it as a unit and a group. We always look for that impact, whether you play 90 minutes or seven from the bench, it’s up to you to go and create that impact for the team and as an individual.”
Gilmour continued by looking ahead to Tuesday evening’s second leg fixture against Septemvri Sofia in the UEFA Youth League and highlighted the squad’s preparations.
He added: “Preparation will always be there; we will be thorough. We will analyse the first leg properly and we will be prepared to go into it and treat it back to square one. We are under no illusion that it will be a tough tie, we are expecting that o come and that’s what we want. If we can get the levels that we reached today, that will be the level to get the victory for the next round.
“There is a feel-good factor and momentum in there. We have to hang onto that and keep it, ultimately when the whistle blows on Tuesday night, it will start from scratch again. It’s up to us to go and create that, we have to be mentally switched on for what this game will bring.”
