The Light Blues will travel to the other side of Glasgow on Wednesday evening to take on Ange Postecoglou’s side in the Old Firm, and the manager says he’s happy with the way the club ended the transfer window last night.
Speaking to the press ahead of the upcoming fixture, he said: “I’m very happy with the last day of the transfer window, bringing in Mateusz [Zukowski] as a full back and Aaron [Ramsey] for the midfield. I’m really happy and pleased to have them in the squad, being able to bring in a player like Aaron was a very good opportunity for us.
“You also don’t want to lose players who are valuable to the squad and important starters. I’m happy that we didn’t have to sell, in that aspect I’m quite happy that we kept them and with the payers that we brought in.
“All the hard work that Ross [Wilson] put in the last few days so that we could bring him in [Ramsey], we want to bring experience and quality to the squad, like I said before, you have to be ready in the transfer window and make sure that you are prepared so that we can leave the window stronger as a squad from when you started it – I think that we achieved that over this window.
“We spoke with Ross a lot in the last few weeks, when I came to the club, we knew that Nathan [Patterson] would be valued in the market, so we needed to change the squad in January. We only wanted to move in the market if we could get quality in. I’m really happy that we were successful in those transfers, I think we acted very well this window.”
Van Bronckhorst looked ahead to the squad’s important league match against Celtic tomorrow night and expressed his excitement for the referee’s whistle as he reflected on his time playing in the game as a player.
He continued: “I feel excitement because it’s a big game, I’ve played many big games in my career – to prepare for games like this is very nice because you want to get the best out of your team and perform well get a good result.
“What’s the case for players is the same for coaches, you have special games in your career and in the season. For me and the club, the Old Firm is the biggest game that we play in the league. I played as a player and now as a coach, but it’s the same you want to enjoy the game and be successful to get a good result.
“We’re going to prepare everyone in watching games to see where their strengths lie so we can be dangerous, they’re [Celtic] a tough team and we have to be well prepared to have our game plan and execute that tomorrow.”
