Tavernier: Ramsey Adds Great Depth

JAMES Tavernier believes Aaron Ramsey ‘adds great depth’ into the Rangers squad as they prepare to face Celtic in the Premiership on Wednesday evening.

The Rangers captain reflected on the end of the club’s transfer window as the team travel to Parkhead tomorrow night to face Ange Postecoglou’s side in the league campaign and says the new signings can strengthen the Light Blues.

Speaking to the press ahead of the upcoming game, he said: “I think that [Aaron Ramsey] he adds great depth into the squad with his quality and ability, you can see how good of a player he is and to sign someone of that magnitude is really sending a statement out from the club. He’s here to help us continue to strengthen the team for what we want at the end of the season.

“We’ve come on leaps and bounds throughout the whole club, we’ve really pushed ourselves and moved into a direction that we want to be going which you can clearly see with Aaron joining us yesterday – the magnitude of a signing like that is the steps that we want to be taking to attract these kinds of players. We’re going in the right direction and we’re continuing to make ourselves stronger and better.

“I’m really impressed with Amad [Diallo] at the weekend coming straight in and starting, Ross County can be a tough place to go to, but I was really impressed with his performance. I’m delighted to have him in front of us and hopefully, we can create a good relationship where we can move forward and strengthen the right side.

“It’s part of my responsibilities as a captain [to help], as a player you’re always wanting to try and help anybody in the squad who comes in to give them advice from the experience that you have. He’s coming in as the same position as me, so I’ll take him under m wing and if he needs anything from me, I’ll do that.’ He’s also here to push and get the best out of me as well, and I’ll be trying to get the best out of him.

Tavernier looked ahead to the next league match tomorrow evening as the squad prepare to collect three points at Parkhead.

He said: “Every game is new and it’s something that we don’t really think about too much, we know that when each game comes along, they always have their differences, and we want to go into that game and get the result that we want. It’s our next match and we work game by game; we want to get the maximum points.

“We’ve both made new additions, so the sides will be a bit different. We’ve looked at how they’ve played and how we want to play, we’ve got to wait until the first whistle and be the one that wants it the most and get the result. Everyone is capable of doing a good job for the team.

“It comes from experience as footballers, we know what we have to do when we get there, we have a game plan and we’ll carry that out – if we stick to that, then everything else will take care of itself. These are the games you want to be playing in, all the boys are excited and I’m looking forward to it too. You’ve just got to trust what you’re doing and what our plan is to deliver it to the best we can.”
