Gio Praises A Big Three Points

GIO van Bronckhorst praised a big three points for his Rangers side with Malik Tillman’s goal the difference between Gers and Hearts at Ibrox tonight.

Following the weekend reverse to St Johnstone, the Light Blues knew it was imperative for them to defeat the Jambos, and they duly did with Gio’s men getting stronger as the match progressed.

Speaking afterwards, the manager told RangersTV: "It was a big three points after the loss at the weekend and we needed to come back to winning ways.

"It was a tough game and we did everything today to create chances - I think in the first-half we created some good chances and in transition moments and I think we should have damaged them more with the space we got.

"Then in the second half when we scored the goal - a great goal by Malik. It was a good run, a good cross and that is how you have to attack the crosses when you get into the final third.

"So I am really happy with the win - a big win for us and we have two days to prepare to go to the next game on Saturday, but to get three points today is very positive."

The goal was a real moment of quality, all sparked by a moment of magic from Ryan Kent.

The manager continued: "We came a lot into the final third today, and especially in the second half we did it better with not only a goal from Malik but also some good chances for Morelos to even make the score bigger.

"But I think we gave everything. The energy was there, the intensity was there and I think we deserved to win this game.

"You see the danger they have with the two strikers - Ginnelly and Shankland - always attacking the space behind your defence, and it is very difficult to defend but we did well." Kent was named ‘man of the match’ at Ibrox tonight, with the boss delighted with what his wide man gave him.

He said: "He was dangerous. His one against ones and his workrate was there, and I think especially in the second half at the right moments we pressed them really high up and we had some transition moments to attack.

"But overall, if you don't have the energy, it is going to be difficult, but I saw the energy today with my players."

And it’s on now to St Mirren on Saturday for Gers’ final game before the World Cup. The boss added: “We have two days to prepare, we have to recover well, eat well, sleep well and make sure at 12:30 we are there again to get three points."
