The Light Blues had to remain patient for their opening today as they celebrated their 150th anniversary with a victory, and van Bronckhorst was additionally pleased with the character his men showed to get themselves over the line for three more Scottish Premiership points.
The manager told RangersTV: "It was an important win, and I think it was a hard first-half. They were giving us a big challenge, which you always know you're going to get against Aberdeen.
"I think in the second half, we were much better - we played with a much higher tempo and played forward if we could, and I think that was the big difference with the first-half.
"We created chances to win the game, and didn't have any big chances against us which is also really good, and in the end, I was really happy with the 1-0 as it gives us three points again.
"We always work hard, and in moments of the game today we reacted well, especially in the second half - we won all the duels, we won the second balls, we had a high tempo and we were just waiting for the goal like we have seen in many games before this one and we have scored a very important goal.”
The manager also praised his substitutes for the impact they had this afternoon, not least Roofe for his winning goal in the closing stages of the game.
The manager added: "We needed the changes and they impacted us really well. They brought energy, character and stamina into the team, and that is what we needed at that moment.
"I am really happy with the subs we put in."
