The B Team boss reflected on the squad’s performance and said that the youngsters created a lot of chances but weren’t able to execute them properly.
Speaking after the game, he said: “[The game] was probably below the levels that they have set, obviously our most recent game against Clyde was quite a dominant performance, but when you look at today’s game, we didn’t start at the levels that we had set.
“That was one of the key messages at half time, we had to be more aggressive to get on the front foot. We created enough opportunities, but unfortunately, we never took any of those. Our quality was probably the bit that let us down.
“You do add to the fact that it is an Old Firm game, you’ve got to take yourself to a level, I just think that we were a bit too slow to get to that point at the start of the game. The boys are frustrated by that, we just need to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. We’ve got one game to go on Tuesday against Queen’s Park and our attention turns to that to make sure that we try and finish strongly.
McCallum looked to their next fixture against Celtic in the Lowland League in a couple of weeks and believes that the squad will reach better levels.
“We’ve got two games against them in the Lowland League. We know enough about each other to understand what each team are likely to be like. We’re really looking forward to it, we believe that we have more levels to reach within our performances.”
