In the new format of the competition, Rangers and Celtic development squads will join Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen’s Park first-teams playing each team home and away in a league. The top two teams will then contest the final of the competition in April next year.
Rangers go into the game on the back of a 4-3 victory away to Ajax in a friendly, and coach Peter Lovenkrands is looking forward to the game.
He said: “It will be a tough game of course, they are a championship side who have got a really good team but I am really looking forward to it and to the test.
“We have got to focus on the way we play and what we do and hopefully we can go and get the win.”
With wins against Berwick Rangers and Stranraer in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup already this season, Lovenkrands is expecting another step up for the side.
He added: “It is a definite step up for the boys but we have shown in pre-season we have played a few championship teams and done really well so I am not worried about the boys.
Lovenkrands believes the new format will make the competition tougher but expects his players to step up to the challenge.
He said: “It will make it a bit tougher but I’m sure the boys will stand up and be counted and do everything we can.
Admission to the C&G Stadium is £5 for adults and £2 for children. The game will kick-off at 7.30pm.
