Howat Delighted With Three Points

KIRSTY Howat says she was delighted to get back on the scoresheet after netting a double in Rangers’ 4-1 victory over Aberdeen in the SWPL this evening.

A brace from the 25-year-old, and a fine strike from Megan Bell, sent the Light Blues into the interval with a commanding 3-0 advantage before Jodi McLeary rounded off the scoring in the second half for Malky Thomson’s side.

Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Howat was delighted by the team’s performance: “Our main focus tonight was to get the three points. We were obviously coming off the back of the draw on Sunday so we were delighted to get the three points, get back to winning ways and to score twice is always nice.

“The first one is a good ball in from Rachel [McLauchlan] and a little bit of creativity with a back heel flick. The second one, I got a lucky deflection but it was going on target. It’s nice to get back on the scoresheet.”

There were starts for two teenagers in Emma Watson and McLeary in a particularly youthful Gers lineup, and Howat was effusive in her praise of the creative talents in attacking positions.

She continued: “I was in the youthful section of the team! I think I brought the average age up, but it was a good performance with a lot of energy. Jodi and Emma on the wings, it’s what we needed tonight.

“We have a lot of creative players all over the pitch so to be able to link with them and play little one-two’s helps me improve my game. We have creativity all over the pitch and it’s nice to play with such creative players.”
