After being held to a goalless draw by Glasgow City at the weekend the Gers responded in commanding fashion with a dominant performance on a night they ran out comfortable winners.
Speaking to RangersTV Thomson has praised the professionalism in the display as was happy with what he saw having made five changes to his starting side. He said: “It was a good performance especially with the number of changes that we made, when you make that number of changes you can lose a bit of the fluidity in the game.
“But credit to the girls, it was really pleasing with five academy graduate players involved tonight and Jenna Ferguson making her debut, a 2005 born playing at this level of football, so it is great.”
The manager was also impressed by the quality of goals on show and credited the team for sticking to the pre-match plan.
He continued: “I thought we were quite patient in the way we played, we kept to the gameplan. When we make those changes, you are never going to get the same flow in the game.
“Credit to people like Megan Bell, that’s her first 90 minutes in a long time. She has been out for about 18 months, so a lot of positives coming out of the game.”
Having made five changes, Thomson hailed the senior members of the squad for welcoming the more youthful players into the side and was delighted to be able to field Jenna Ferguson who made her debut for the club off the bench.
He said: “The one factor is that it is a strong group, but the experienced girls like Tessel Middag, Kathryn Hill, Nic Docherty, Rachel McLauchlan and company have really welcomed the girls in.
“It wasn’t that long ago that we had the girls playing out in Europe as well, so credit to the girls and especially Jenna making her debut.
“I am extremely proud of that; it is always pleasing for me given my background and where I have come from to see a young Academy player make their debut at first-team level.”
The manager stressed the importance of his side getting back to winning ways and how the team conducted themselves on a pleasing night for Rangers in Cumbernauld.
He continued: “It is massively important to get back to winning ways, you have got to handle the highs and lows in the game.
“Coming off the back of the Glasgow City game and the whole circus that goes around these games, to come back to playing tonight in such close proximity from Sunday is great.
“I am delighted with the girls and their approach, the way they went about it, being professional in everything they do, the desire, the passion and the standards that they set themselves.”
