James Maxwell Pens New Deal

RANGERS are today delighted to confirm that academy player James Maxwell has signed a new contract with the club.

Maxwell is the latest academy player to commit his future to the club, penning a new contract until 2022.

The highly regarded and energetic left back, who joined the club in 2017 from Falkirk, has been training with the first team regularly this season.

He quickly progressed in his development at Rangers converting from a winger to left back, and has this season featured in each of the UEFA Youth League games, and in the Development Squads run to the semi-final of the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup featuring in matches against first team opposition.

Maxwell has been capped twice by Scotland under-19s, recently winning their European Championship qualifying group, starring in a memorable 1-0 win over Germany alongside five of his Rangers colleagues.

Last season, the youngster helped the under-18s to a 3-2 Youth Cup Final win over Celtic at Hampden and won the U18 CAS League to qualify for the UEFA Youth League.

Head of Academy Craig Mulholland said: “Every player has their individual journey, with James joining our Academy later than others, and since that time has flourished in the high performance environment we have created.

“He has had a fantastic Academy journey over the last two years – changing position, being pushed in our European Games Programme, being selected by his country for the first time and now training regularly with our first team.

“James was desperate to commit his future to Rangers as he, like the other Academy players who have extended their contracts recently, recognise this is a massively exciting time for the club and there has never been a been a better time to be a young player at Rangers.”
