The Light Blues return to Hampden as they continue their bid to retain the trophy, and the right-back says the players are committed to turning things around after Wednesday’s defeat against Aberdeen.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, Tavernier said: “It is not the spot we want to be in at this stage of the season, but it is still very early so there are a lot of games to play. This is obviously the first trophy that you can get your hands on, so it is very important for us to get into the final and try to retain the trophy, that is our aim.
“We had a bad performance and result against Kilmarnock and then we were able to bounce back in Europe so we know as a team we have the performance levels there but it is about being consistent and delivering performances and results every single game.
“The players are fully-committed to turning things around, the lads want to win games. The manager is getting criticism, and the team are getting criticism but that happens when you don't get the results that you want. It is down to us as players to improve ourselves and obviously first and foremost deliver the results that the club want, and the fans want.”
Tavernier insists the squad is working hard to improve as they look ahead to another big week of fixtures. He continued: “It is up to us that are on the pitch, we are in it together, collectively as one team. We will all put our hands up and be responsible for when the results are not going the way we want.
“It is a collective team performance, and it is not just the starting XI, it is the full squad, and it is down to us to improve each other, to demand from each other and get what we want out of this season, and we have got to continue to do that.”
“In the league, we are nine points behind, and it is not good enough for our standards, but we know where we need to improve. We are continuously working hard to get to where we need to be but in football you can't continue to dwell on the past because the games come thick and fast, and you need to reapply yourself and go out there and get the results.”
When asked about the criticism from supporters, Tavernier said: “I totally understand their frustrations because ultimately, they want to see us win games. There is frustration among us, we never want to go to a place and drop any points.
“As a captain and as a player, I am doing everything possible in my power and I know all the players in the dressing room are going to be doing everything in their power to put in performances and results that the fans will be proud of.
“We have got to continuously work hard every day and ultimately we can do all the talking we want but we have got to do the talking on the pitch.”
