Jayden Meghoma: Strong Competition Is Key

JAYDEN MEGHOMA says he is relishing the challenge of battling Tuur Rommens for a starting spot at Rangers.

The Light Blues strengthened their options at left-back with the arrival of the Belgian Under-21 international on a deal from Westerlo last month.

Rommens will now look to force his way into Head Coach Danny Röhl’s first-team plans for the remainder of the season.

Meghoma, who is set to face Kilmarnock tomorrow at Ibrox, knows his new team-mate wants his place in the side, but he believes competition is a good thing.

Speaking to the media, he said: “Every big club has competition, and that is part of the game.

“It will make me better and make the team better, and hopefully it will help us deliver what we want to this season.

“Tuur is a really good player, so for us to be going at each other, the main thing is to make sure we perform on the pitch.

“For me, and the team, it is who can deliver best for the team on the day.

“I am enjoying every moment of being here. I am trying to take every moment as it comes.

“I have improved, and coming to a club like this, I was going to improve. This experience has made me realise a lot of things about myself, but I am enjoying it here.”

Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Easter Road made it eight domestic matches without defeat for the Gers.

Meghoma is looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow night and says the squad are determined to get maximum points.

He added: “We are in a fantastic position, and we have clawed things back. It is up to keep performing and pushing.

“We know what we need to do, and we need to focus on ourselves.

“We want to make the fans happy against Kilmarnock. New faces will help us in every possible way.

“We have to look to keep improving, and the new players will hopefully help us do that.

“At times on Sunday, we could have been better. As a team, we have looked at it, and we want to do better in the next game.”
