Having to be patient in the early exchanges the Light Blues took control after breaking the deadlock to maintain their perfect start to the year and take a step closer to defending the trophy they won for the first time in their history last season.
Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the victory over Montrose, she commented: “We took a while to get going into the game, which is unsurprising when we have made as many changes as we made before the game.
“It took us a while to get going into it but you could see once we settled and found our rhythm that we looked really good.
“We looked really promising going forward especially towards the last 15 minutes of the game.
“I thought our impetus to go and keep pushing, I say week in week out that keepers are making excellent saves, but we are forcing keepers to make these saves against us.
“Things that we have been working on in training came out, which is great.
“It was really nice to be able to get May Cruft on and get her some minutes in the tank because she has been training with us and being doing excellent.
“It is invaluable to get some minutes into certain players and the biggest thing for us is just to get through to the next round and a clean sheet is really nice to go along with it.”
The former Lioness highlighted her side upping their levels after the restart which saw them dominate in the second 45 minutes and add four more strikes to their half time lead.
She continued: “That is the thing we tend to come up against something different when we play against a certain level of opposition.
“Fair play to Montrose I said it before the game it is a one-off game for them so they could kind of bring it and find an extra 10, 15 or 20 per cent.
“They high pressed us and came after us and went player for player.
“It just took us a bit of time to figure that one out and figure out how to beat that but once we did it we could see that we managed to do it time and time again and create many opportunities.
“We spoke a lot about patience at half time and not being in a rush to try and score immediately and keeping the ball for longer periods of time and controlling the game a little bit more.
“I was happy to see the improvement in the second half and to go on and score another four goals to seal the game was really nice.”
The head coach was happy with the impact of the players who came into the side made having named seven changes from their league win last weekend, saying they are coming into a crucial few weeks heading into the international break and split.
She added: “It is great that we can do that, I think it is important that we do that as well.
“We have got a few niggles this week, you can see that we have not got as many people on the bench than what we would normally.
“It was important that we used our squad and utilised it really well and I thought that the players that came in did excellent and put on a really good show.
“We have said it is an important run-in for us, it was important for us to come back in after Christmas and have the performance and scoring some goals to get us back on track.
“Then the win in the semi-final against Celtic to make sure that we are in the final of that cup and this one was another target for us as well to get through this.
“We are in the hat for both cups which is superb for us, we just need to make sure that we continue what we need to do now and keep that form going and keep looking at improving week in week out and getting better and leading into the split it is going to be vital.”
