The Light Blues ran out 7-0 winners over SWPL 2 side Boroughmuir Thistle at Broadwood Stadium today as they impressed to put their name in the draw for the last four.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, the head coach commented: “The main thing for us was to progress through to the semi-final and improve on our performance from last week. The second half performance was much better and much more like ourselves.
“I think you could see that the more we got into the game, the quicker we moved the ball, played with a little bit more intent and the game grew a little bit. I was happy with the second half overall and just as happy to be into the semi-final.
The former Lioness has highlighted the fast start the Gers made to the game after going ahead inside two minutes and praised her team for their second half showing in Cumbernauld.
She continued: “We always want to start games strong and fast. Even after we scored we didn’t then continue the speed of what we did start, even though we got the goal early from a set piece.
“We didn’t really maintain that pressure and keep them penned in really, we didn’t really move the ball with any intent. That is what we spoke about at half time, I was much happier with the second half than I was the first.
“It was always going to be a matter of time before we could break them down and them withstand attack after attack. It is always difficult when you play against a low block and a team that sits in and defends very well.
“I thought they were excellent at being able to go player to player today and really stand up to the challenge. It is really hard to keep sustaining attacks like that and to keep trying to be near enough perfect every attack you make. We got there in the end; it was a bit scrappy to start off with but once we got into our rhythm it was ok.”
Potter was also satisfied with the clean sheet as her team warmed up for the league clash against Glasgow City next Sunday in impressive fashion.
She added: “That is always our aim. We always know we are going to create goals and create opportunities in and around the box. I was happy with the goal scorers today and to get seven goals is always a bonus but I am always happier with the clean sheet.
“That is big one for us now. We know we have got to maintain our start to the season. We have got to go into that with confidence and know that we are the team to beat now.
“Sometimes that comes with a little bit of pressure but I want us to soak that pressure up and thrive under it. It is something we are going to be working on, on the pitch this week and making sure that we are the team to beat now.
“We have got to play our way; we know the threats that City can pose us. I am sure we can pose them just as many if not more. I will be looking for us to continue that form in the season and hopefully go on and get three points.”
