16-year-old Laura Berry sprung from the substitutes bench to secure the victory for the Light Blues, who matched their Spanish opposition throughout the 90 minutes in sweltering heat.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Potter commented: “I thought it was excellent. We knew that it would be a tough game and we would have to suffer possession, but we knew we needed to be comfortable with that and accept that they were going to have the ball.
“However, we knew we were going to have to keep our shape really well, so it was good practice for us to do the other side of the game which we don’t get to do very often.
“We knew that we were always going to create chances and that we have players on the pitch in positions where we can create chances. We know we have that little piece of quality where we can create chances, and even though they had the lion’s share of possession, we had the better chances throughout the game.
“I don’t remember Jenna [Fife] really having to make a save, albeit they had the free header at the end, and we hit the post and had more attempts at goal. I’m really pleased with that.
“It’s about just trusting that moment and process. It’s something that I asked of them at half-time, that we need to be a little bit braver and trust that they can do what I’m asking. You can see that as soon as it happens, they realise that it works. It’s about making sure we continue doing that, keep believing in our patterns, and hopefully get more results like that.”
The triumph brings Rangers’ pre-season to a positive conclusion, and Potter hopes that her side carry their hard work and endeavour into next weekend’s SWPL opener away to Spartans.
She added: “They competed really well. I wouldn’t expect anything else because it’s non-negotiable. When we step out onto that pitch we want to compete and battle. That’s one thing that I expect them to do every single game.
“It’s been a great week, coming away from a tough game like this with a positive result helps. It gives us something to really build on coming into this week. It’ll be a tough game next week, so we can go home, prepare, and go again.”
