The competition holders came out the traps fast and took a lead through Rio Hardy before they were pegged back by the hosts. Jodi McLeary’s goal gave them a half time lead before further strikes from Mia McAulay and Kirsty Howat were to follow as they marked their return to action with a win.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory the head coach highlighted the start the side made as the Gers picked up from where they left off before the international break.
She said: “It was a tough game; I think we started extremely well. It is something that I have been asking the players to do is start games a little bit stronger. I thought we did that we were exceptional for the first 20 minutes, obviously we give them a little bit of glimmer back into the game, just a mistake from ourselves but I don't mind that because we are trying to do the right things.
“We are trying to build and they are doing what I asked them to do, again I don't mind it, but to come over with a 4-1 victory and into the next round I am really pleased.”
Potter has praised the response her team showed after conceding the equaliser in the first half and was happy with her side were able to find the net on a further three occasions to mark an impressive win.
She continued: “We needed to come back from that pretty sharpish, I think going in at 2-1 at half time looks very different to 1-1. It was vital to get that second goal at that time just before half time. We kept going and we kept pushing and we fully deserved to go into the next round.
“We are trying to do the right thing, we are trying to play out and build, trying to change how we are playing slightly and be a bit riskier when we can. It is just knowing the times, knowing the places and ironing out the times. It was something that was a bit of a gimme from us, but we reacted better and we managed to go on and score another three goals on top of that.”
The boss was pleased with the control the Light Blues showed throughout as they now look ahead to the draw and who they will face in the quarters and their return to league action next weekend.
She added: “That just shows us growing and progressing, we managed to control the game for most of the second half. I didn't see at any real point where we got pinned back in or pressurised at any point so I was pleased with the control that we showed in the second half and managed to force them into a lower block than what they are used to and creating a few more chances on goal.
“It will be nice to see who we get in the next round of the draw but it is just focusing on the league now and hopefully kicking on from there.”
