The 23-year-old broke the deadlock with a little over 20 minutes remaining with an unerring left-footed strike in today’s eventual 2-0 victory over Spartans at Broadwood Stadium.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, Potter says she was delighted for the goalscorer: “It was a great strike. Camille has done that for us time and time again.
“You know what you’re going to get from her when she comes on. She has bags of energy. I think it’s rightly so that she comes knocking on my door again because she’s doing this week in, week out.
“She’s an absolute joy and a dream to coach. We give her information; she takes it on board and tries to be better.
“There’s no sulking or the shoulders going down; she doesn’t let it beat her up.
“She has a great attitude and a joy to have in the squad, and I’m delighted she managed to get another goal today.”
Indeed, it was a frustrating afternoon for the Light Blues until the introduction of Lafaix with 22 minutes remaining as Spartans proved obdurate opposition.
But once Lafaix’s well-taken strike settled the nerves Howat stepped up to double Rangers’ tally on the 80th minute mark.
Potter said of the performance: “We knew they would come and make it tough for us because our previous game against them they banked off in a low block and frustrated.
“We expected it. It just took us a long time to get into the game and it was stuff that we spoke about pre-match: moving the ball quickly, shifting it side-to-side, don’t get caught too high, too early, and taking too many touches so they could jump out and press.
“I thought there was huge improvements from last week in terms of quality in possession.
“We knew we would have the lion’s share of the ball, so that helped us to get confidence a little bit early.
“You can see when it clicks, and we do things that we do well individually, that it has a massive impact on the team.
“I’ve said to the players that they need to take a little bit of responsibility to be able to know what the game needs, and know what they do well, and bring it early; not wait until the 60th minute.
“Again, the subs who came onto the pitch had a massive impact: Camille comes on and scores a goal which really just settles us.
“We can’t wait to get settled at 1-0 up; we need to settle earlier in the game than that.
“We weren’t too pleased going into half-time with the lack of chances that we created, and we didn’t really test the goalkeeper at any stage.
“You could see the difference in the second half and we always knew it would take time.
“The most important thing today was getting through this round and coming away 2-0. It was comfortable in the end, but we need to make sure we’re doing that earlier in the game.”
