Jo Potter: There's Positives To Take From Draw

JO POTTER says Rangers are disappointed to only come away with today’s derby with a point, but feels there is positives to take from the outing.

The Light Blues took a first half lead through a brilliant Kirsty Howat goal but couldn’t stretch their advantage further before being pegged back by their city rivals with the game ending a goal apiece.

Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the 90 minutes on their return to league action, she commented: “We are disappointed, we thought we controlled the game for large parts.

“We struggled to get the second goal, Kirsty Howat hits the post/crossbar and I think if that goes in it is a different game, but we didn't create enough.

“They did what they do really well, we allowed them to do that.

“That is one of their strengths and something that they are going to bring game in and game out and we just need to be better on the flip side of that to be able to handle it.

“I spoke to the players they are all disappointed, which they should be, but it is a point and it is tough three-game week so we have got to take some positives from that and look forward.

“Fine margins? I think that is it, there was parts of the game that we can definitely look at in the second half because we allow ourselves to get dragged into not playing football enough.

“I think the disappointing thing is we didn't make it two before half time.

“It wasn't for the lack of spending the majority of the time in their half.

“That is the frustration a little bit, just be able to relax a little bit more and keep the ball for longer periods of time.

“I think it is one of those things that we have got to look at.

“The players know straight away, they all said the same thing.

“We will look at it and go again tomorrow.”

Rangers were boosted by the return to the pitch of duo Mia McAulay and Liv McLoughlin from injury and Potter says all the squad will have a part to play during their busy schedule.

She continued: “We are going to need everyone.

“That is the difficulty of it sometimes, I think if you look at our substitutions previously and they have had massive impacts and today it potentially just lost a little bit of our flow when we made them.

“But you are looking towards a three-game week and we are 1-0 up at the time and you are wanting to push and get another goal because we knew we needed another goal and that is what can happen on the flip side of it.

“We have got to make sure we are managing moments a little bit better.

“I was frustrated because their goal came from something that we'd spoke about at half time.

“Something that we didn't quite get right from half time into the second half, it is something for us to look at.

“There is lots of positives in the game as well, controlling one of these games in an Old Firm is big, we just need to control it for a lot longer and bring what we have been bringing in the last few games with little bit more composure.

“There is a lot of positives that we can look at but we have definitely got to look at some of the stuff we didn't do quite well as well.”

The Gers now quickly turn their attention to a midweek trip to Petershill to take on Glasgow City, with the former Lioness insisting the team’s full focus in readying themselves for their next SWPL clash.

She added: “We go again, as I say all the time we are playing against some really good opponents this week.

“You can't get tougher than playing Celtic, City and Hibs.

“We have got to make sure that we are doing our work.

“They are three top teams and they are all striving for the same thing.

“It is a big game on Wednesday and we have got to go again, we have got to recharge.

“We have got to go and look at that game, put it behind us very quickly and look towards City.”
