The defender captained Danny Röhl’s side to a 3-1 win at Parkhead to start 2026 in the best possible way.
The Scotland stopper believes the second 45 minutes, which saw Youssef Chermiti notch a double and Mikey Moore also net, will give the squad plenty of belief in the weeks ahead.
Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “It’s a big performance and we showed great character in the second half.
“In the first half we were naive at points and we let them play their game but in the second half we were really good.
“We were aggressive, we put them under pressure and we were strong defensively.
“If you are coming here to get a result you need to do that. To a man we did it in the second half.
“We are a young side, we are coming here, in difficult conditions, and it can be a difficult game, but in the second half we showed what we can do.
“We won second balls, on the front foot and that’s the minimum, but we showed that and we had the quality to score the goals we did.
“With the likes of Youssef, Nico Raskin, Mikey, we have real quality and if we do the basics well, like we did and reach our standards we have a great chance.
“It will give us belief but that was there already. It is about showing it and doing it on the big stage.
“I think this can be a big moment and we have to do it again on Tuesday as you don’t get a rest here. You go again and again but we enjoy it.
“If we want to be there in May we have to back this up on Tuesday against Aberdeen.”
Souttar was one of the experienced members of the squad and says the younger players stood up to be counted.
Some members of his family were in amongst the travelling support and Souttar wants the team to build on the performance against the Dons.
He added: “I think we have experience in the squad and you have to help the younger boys.
“The atmosphere can be intimidating for some lads, but we didn’t show it today. Everyone stood up and took the ball and aggression off the ball was massive.
“We have momentum, athleticism, speed and power and when we do that and press high and put them under pressure then we have a great chance to win and we did that.
“The supporters were amazing. Some of my family were here and it was incredible.
“It is a special moment for everyone here, but we want to make sure there are more of these in the months and years to come.
“We have to build on this. We have to keep the momentum building and do the basics and what the manager wants from us and then we can see where we go.”
