Kasanwirjo Delighted To Mark First Start With Win

NANA KASANWIRJO admits he was delighted to mark his first Ibrox start with a victory.

The Dutch defender put in an impressive showing as he helped Philippe Clement’s side defeat St Mirren 2-1.

Mohamed Diomande’s opener was cancelled out by Alex Gogic, before Vaclav Cerny secured all three points for the Light Blues.

Kasanwirjo knows it wasn’t easy against the Buddies but insists the three points were the most important thing.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: “It was unbelievable to make my first start at Ibrox. You could see the supporters, they gave us great support.

“We needed that and they stood behind us, so we had to give them something back and we did.

“Playing out there and hearing the fans really spurs the team on.

“Every game, I love to play in front of fans but to do it in front of a full Ibrox was unbelievable.

“The first 20 minutes were hard but after that, we dominated the game.

“We had more of the ball, we had chances to go forward but we kept it calm and we knew the chances would come.

“You have to believe the winning goal would come. We have a lot of experienced players and they always keep shouting to the younger players.

“That’s what we need. You see the likes of James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland coming on, with new energy. Everyone did their job.”

Kasanwirjo has had to bide his time to force his way into the starting XI ahead of the likes of captain James Tavernier, John Souttar, Robin Propper and Leon Balogun.

The 22-year-old is already loving life in Scotland and he is looking to build on wins over FCSB and the Saints in Wednesday’s trip to Pittodrie.

He added: “I am feeling good, we have a good team, the dressing room is really good as well.

“We go out together sometimes and we have a real bond in the team. You can see that on and off the park. We are like a family and we need to stay like that.

“We have to look to continue the momentum we have.

“We can’t stand still, we have to go on Wednesday against Aberdeen and that is now our focus.”
