KATIE WILKINSON is hopeful of playing her part in bringing further success to Rangers after making the switch to the club.
The 29-year-old becomes head coach Jo Potter’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window as she makes the move north of the border joining from English side Southampton.
Speaking to RangersTV upon signing for the Gers, the striker is keen to hit the ground running straight away in Scotland having won the Championship Player of the Year as well as the golden boot in the league on two consecutive occasions in past campaigns.
She said: “Scoring goals for me as a striker is something that I love to do.
“Creating goals as well but ultimately as a striker you want to be putting the ball in the back of the net.
“For me whatever club I have been at that is the goal that I set myself.
“At Rangers that won't be any different, I want to be scoring as many goals as I can, contributing to creating goals as much as I can.
“Hopefully that will provide the club and us as a team plenty of success.
“In terms of experience in this league I don't have any, so that is going to be a learning curve for me.
“I have got a lot of experience elsewhere and hopefully I can bring that to the squad and I am sure that the players within the group will get us up to speed quite quickly and hopefully hit the ground running.”
The former Sheffield United player discussed the factors she had to consider when making the switch away from her home country for the first time in her career, as she had targets a league title success with the Light Blues.
She continued: “Factors I considered when deciding to come here? I think winning the league is a massive one.
“Jo and the club have made that very clear that is something they want to do.
“For me as a striker I want to score goals and that is going to be a massive part of being able to lift the trophy in the league next season and hopefully I can help the club do that.
“In football you have to move away from home to find happiness on the pitch.
“If that is what I have got to do to find a club that I can find that happiness on the pitch and win things with then that for me is a sacrifice I am willing to take.
“Again a massive factor of Rangers Football Club it has got that family feel and that is important to me being so far away from home.”
The forward spent time with her new boss at Coventry United back in the 2021/22 season and she wants to continue learning under her as she is hopeful of adding to the quality that the Gers already possess in their current squad.
She added: “Jo's impact on me signing? It was really massive; I have worked with Jo before.
“The time that she gives you as a player on the pitch, the ability to be able to learn every single day and she is not shy in telling you what you need to do more of or be better at.
“Which I think is important for me at this point.
“I want every day to be a learning day and I know that Jo will help me to be able to do that but also she knows what I am capable of and hopefully she can use my strengths and hopefully that adds to the squad and what we have already got.”
