RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of Katie Wilkinson from Southampton on a two-year deal, upon the expiry of her contract at the English side.
Wilkinson, 29, becomes the second addition from the English Women’s Championship outfit this summer following the arrival of defender Laura Rafferty.
The forward joins from Southampton having been nominated for the English Women’s Championship Player of the Season award last season.
In addition, the 29-year-old scooped the Player’s Player of the Season award for the Saints as she finished as the side’s top goalscorer.
Indeed, Wilkinson first caught the eye of Birmingham City where she made her Women’s Super League debut at just 17-years-old.
She then spent time with Aston Villa and London Bees, before a move to Sheffield United in 2019 saw her fire the Blades to within touching distance of promotion to the top-flight and collect the Championship Player of the Season and Golden Boot awards for two consecutive seasons.
Upon joining the Gers, Wilkinson commented: “I am really excited; it is an absolutely massive club and they have made me feel so welcome since being here.
“I think the ambition is massive here; the club want to win things and that lines up very much with the values that I have.
“I want to win games of football, leagues, and, for me, I just hope that I can contribute to the success that the club can have.”
Head Coach, Jo Potter, continued: “I am delighted to welcome a player with the pedigree of Katie to the club.
"I was fortunate enough to work with her at Coventry, and her impressive goalscoring rate throughout her career is testament to her quality as a player and hunger to improve.
"I am excited to see what she will bring to the team in the coming years, and I look forward to working with her on the training pitch."
Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director, Donald Gillies, added: “We are thrilled to secure Katie as our latest summer signing.
“It is clear that she will bring a lot of quality to the squad from her time in England and, allied with the addition of Laura Rafferty, she arrives with fantastic experience at a high level.
“We look forward to her getting to know her teammates over pre-season and helping the team achieve success in the coming seasons.”
