The 27-year-old made her bow for the national team in their UEFA European Championship qualifying win over Slovakia, coming on as a 73rd minute substitute in a 2-0 win.
Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the experience, the striker commented: “I was absolutely delighted, to be given the opportunity it was massive for me and my family.
“It is a dream come true, I think it is every little girl's dream growing up to be able to go and represent their country.
“To have been able to do that and say I have done it is amazing.
“It was kind of weird because we obviously had that storm, which meant that the game got postponed for a bit.
“One of the coaches said to me during that little break so it actually gave me that time to prepare myself.
“They let me know that I was going to go on, I was obviously nervous but I just tried to do the basic things well, it was good to get 20 minutes with the girls.”
The forward says she is eager to earn more minutes on the pitch for her nation, as they now face Hungary in the play-offs in October having topped their qualification group with an unbeaten record overall.
She continued: “Make me hungrier to earn more caps? Definitely, I think for me I have obviously had a few big injuries which has not been ideal but to represent your country is one of the proudest moments of my career so far.
“I have been working hard to get to this point and I was just really happy that Pedro [Martinez Losa] put his faith in me and put me on the pitch.
“It was massive, we said at the start of the Nations League campaign that we wanted to get promoted back to League A and we finished the group unbeaten securing the play-off place.
“We have got a couple of games in October against Hungry and then if we can beat Hungry it's into another round so it's really exciting to be a part of that squad and hopefully I continue to get selected, play well for Rangers and if I get called up it would be another honour.”
In the meantime, the Gers have been back in training for several weeks, with their next pre-season outing coming tomorrow afternoon as they take on Sunderland, with Howat looking forward to a different challenge facing the English club.
She added: “Another really good side, I know they done really well in the Championship last year, I think they finished about third which is great for that league.
“They will be a really competitive side, really physical and well drilled.
“It is another really good test for us, we are looking forward to getting more minutes in the legs and putting into practice what we have been working on in training.
“Playing against different teams? It is great, it is a good time of season to be able to do that.
“A team that we would probably never really play at all.
“To be able to do it in pre-season is great, it is not too far away as well so we will get down there on Sunday and there is really good facilities in their Training Centre and I am sure it will be a really good test for us.”
