The Gers were dominant throughout the first-half at Petershill Park and took a deserved lead through Rachel McLauchlan’s strike, only to be pegged back in the second-half two minutes from time through Jenna Clark’s header.
The game looked set to end all square before Howat was on hand to round keeper Lee Gibson right at the end and roll the ball home as Rangers claimed a vital three points in the title race.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win the striker believed her side deserved this victory this evening. She said: “I am not actually sure what even happened, I know Kirsty loves to play those little passes and we connect quite well in training and we do that all the time.
“It was a through ball and then the whole place was silent and I managed to take it round the keeper and put it away, I think there were a few nervous players in my team but I am absolutely delighted.
“I think to be fair that has happened to us a couple of times, so for it to go the other way is quite nice.
“Some people might think we are lucky, but Malky said after the game that you make your own luck, we deserved that goal right at the end.”
The striker has praised her teammates for their first-half display in particular before going on to seal a massive three points as Gers closed the gap on the league leaders to three.
She continued: “I think we were great first half, we really came out the blocks, pressed and moved the ball really well.
“We had a good few chances and probably should have put a couple more away, but to go in 1-0 at half time was really positive for us.
“It is obviously a massive three points, the second-half was really scrappy, it is really disappointing to lose the goal but to then score a last minute winner was unbelievable.
“It is right up there with one of the best moments.”
The victory sealed two wins in three days for the Gers as focus now turns to the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park this Saturday and Howat says they will need to be ready to go again but it is an occasion they are looking forward to.
She added: “Saturday is a massive game, again we need to make sure that we rest properly, get our nutrition right, rest and recover tomorrow in training and we’ll focus on Motherwell.
“We know it is not going to be an easy game at all but we are really looking forward to it.”
