It was a dominant performance from Rangers at Petershill Park, with Rachel McLauchlan opening the scoring in the first-half. City got back into the game with a couple of minutes remaining, but Thomson’s side showed belief to earn the points in the dying stages of the match.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, the Gers boss said: “It was a massive three points for us, we spoke before the game about getting control. It was in our reach tonight and we knew that and what a fantastic performance from the girls.
“The spirit pleased me the most, we knew that when we get the ball down and start playing football, we create problems for lots of teams but it was just about finding those moments and getting control of the game.
“Being at Rangers is always a hard task, there are a lot of people out there that probably don't want us to do well but this group of players and the support that we have from everybody at the club is phenomenal.
“That is from directors all the way down, we have got an absolute passion and desire to represent this club in the fashion that it should be and that should be retaining the title, that is what we aimed to do at the start of the season and that is what we will continue doing.”
Thomson believes the work on the training pitch was evident this evening, with fitness and mentality proving vital late in the game.
He continued: “The belief was really pleasing, they could have crumbled losing the goal late on, they could've thought that their chance had gone but there was no way that that was happening tonight.
“A lot of the work is done during the week, and I think you see it, I think you see fitness levels, you see desire, you see passion and I am absolutely delighted with the performance.
“Nothing is easy in life, and it is not easy to win a game of football no matter who you are playing so it is important the preparation is correct, it is important that everybody buys in.
“We have spoken about it, we have had our ups and downs, but the one thing that is constant is that we come back, we reset and everyone knows the task at hand.”
