The Scotland international, who joined up with the Light Blues earlier this summer, has featured in the club’s pre-season outings ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Women’s Champions League second round qualifier against SK Slavia Praha.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the team’s return to competitive action in the semi-final encounter, she said: “Of course I am so excited to obviously be here at Rangers and to have something like the Champions League to focus on.
“Our aim is to qualify so we have been working really hard in pre-season and we are working towards that.
“It is three tough teams, but we have been preparing well; we have had some tough games in pre-season to hopefully set us up for that.
“We are working towards that; we have built good relationships within our pre-season games, and hopefully we can show that within the qualifying.
“It is a big game, and we understand that, but at the same time we have prepared within pre-season, and we have done exactly what we can do so we just have to show that on the pitch.”
The defender, who has over 60 caps for her country, is hoping to bring experience to the ranks at the club as one of seven new arrivals for Leanne Crichton’s team this summer.
She continued: “I have had a lot of experience now through different places, and I think that will hopefully help within the team.
“We have got a few leaders within the team; it will be good for us to just show what we can all do together and that is what we are going to focus on.
“There has been new players coming in and we have had to build those relationships but the games that we have played they have all gave us a different challenge.
“We have come up against different styles of play which helps us in this kind of competition. We are looking to just build on that and show that we can do that within the qualifying.
“It has come quite thick and fast, but we have prepared well within pre-season.
“It is a big game, but we are ready for it, and we want to show what we can do.”
Smith is hopeful of seeing the Gers supporters in their numbers in Cumbernauld tomorrow night, with the fans getting a first chance to see the side in action this campaign as they target a place in Saturday’s final.
She added: “It would be good to see the support that will be there.
“Obviously, as a new player it would be nice to see the supporters and to have their support within the game. We will feel that on the pitch, so it will be nice to see tomorrow.
“It's nice to be part of this team, there is a lot of good people within it and seeing how they have progressed and stuff has been really nice.
“Hopefully I can do that myself here, playing for Rangers I want to show what I can do and bring.
“Whether that be leadership or just the experience that I have now got through being at different places and teams. It will be nice just to be with the girls out there tomorrow night.”
