Latest Rangers Loan Review

RANGERS have a number of players from both the first-team and the Academy out on loan at present. Here’s our review of how those who featured got on over the last week.

Nikola Katic – Hajduk Split

Niko was named in the starting XI for the Croatian league side as they welcomed Slaven Belupo to the Stadion Poljud on Sunday for the HNL fixture.

The Light Blue loanee played the full 90 minutes for Valdas Dambrauskas’ side as they took three points after an excellent 3-1 victory at home.

The team will now travel to Stadion Kranjčevićeva on Saturday as they prepare to face Hrvatski Dragovoljac in the league campaign.

Glenn Middleton – St Johnstone

Glenn featured in Callum Davidson’s starting line-up on Wednesday evening as the squad travelled to St Mirren Park to take on Jim Goodwin’s side in the Scottish Premiership.

The Rangers loanee played the full 90 minutes of the game, but after a challenging match the home side took all three points after defeating the Saints 2-1.

Davidson’s side will again travel away from home on Tuesday night as the Perthshire side face Aberdeen in the Premiership at Pittodrie.

Stephen Kelly – Salford City

Stephen was again named in Gary Bowyer’s starting line-up on Saturday as they travelled to Brisbane Road to take on London based Leyton Orient in the English League Two.

The Rangers loanee played 87 minutes before being substituted off, it was a positive result for the Ammies as they collected three league points and a clean sheet away from home after defeating Kenny Jackett’s side 2-0.

The squad will welcome Crawley Town to Moor Lane on Saturday for their next league match.

Christopher McKee – Linfield FC

Chris was an 86th minute substitute for the Blues on Friday evening as the squad travelled to the Oval to face league leaders, Glentoran FC, for a top of the table clash in the NIFL.

It was a hard-fought match for David Healy’s side, but the home side netted a second half winning goal to take the three points in the game.

Linfield will now welcome Portadown to Windsor Park on Saturday as they look to bounce back with a positive league performance in their next game.

Jake Hastie – Linfield FC

Jake also featured on Friday night for the Blues after David Healy named the Light Blue loanee in his starting XI.

Hastie played 67 minutes of the game before being substituted off in the 1-0 defeat at the Oval.

Linfield will now welcome Portadown to Windsor Park on Saturday.

James Maxwell - Ayr United

James was named in Lee Bullen’s starting XI on Wednesday night as they travelled to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock in the Scottish Championship Ayrshire Derby.

The Gers loanee played 88 minutes of the game before being substituted off for the Honest Men.

It was a hard-fought match for both sides, with Maxwell equalising on 14 minutes before the visitor’s secured the victory with 10 minutes remaining to take the three points.

The squad will travel away to Caledonian Stadium on Saturday to take on Inverness in their next Championship fixture.

Ben Williamson – Raith Rovers

Ben was named in John McGlynn’s starting XI on Sunday as they travelled to Parkhead to take on Celtic in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

The youngster played the first half of the game before being subbed off for the Rovers. It was a difficult match for his side with the score line ended 4-0, but the squad quickly turn their attention to Saturday as they travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock in their next league match.

Josh McPake – Tranmere Rovers

Josh was a 62nd minute substitute for Micky Mellon’s side on Saturday as they faced Walsall at Bescot Stadium in the English League Two.

It was a challenging match for the Rovers but a last minute penalty for the home side saw a defeat for Mellon’s side.

The squad will travel to Victoria Park to face Hartlepool on Tuesday evening for their next league game.

Lewis Mayo – Partick Thistle

Lewis was named in Ian McCall’s starting line-up on Saturday as Thistle welcomed Dundee United to Firhill for their fifth-round fixture in the Scottish Cup.

It was a hard-fought match for the squad with Mayo providing a few opportunities on goal, but the Jags were knocked out of the Cup after the score line ended 1-0 to Tam Courts’ side.

The squad now turn their attention to Friday evening as they travel to East End Park to take on Dunfermline in the league.

Kieran Wright - Dumbarton

Kieran was named in Stevie Farrell’s starting XI on Saturday as they travelled to Broadwood to take on Clyde in the Scottish League One.

It was a challenging match, but the squad managed to take away all three points from home after defeating Danny Lennon’s side 3-1.

The team will welcome Alloa Athletic to Dumbarton Stadium on Saturday afternoon for their next match in the league campaign.
