Leah Eddie Loving Being Back On The Pitch

LEAH EDDIE is enjoying being back on the pitch for Rangers after an injury disrupted start to the campaign.

Following a setback during the club’s pre-season training camp of Italy, a further blow was to follow with the defender only making her comeback a fortnight ago in the team’s Sky Sports Cup victory before a first league start followed seven days later.

Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the time out, she commented: “First of all, I had a concussion in pre-season, which kept me out for two weeks, and then the week that I was meant to be coming back, I ended up tearing my soleus.

“We didn't think it was going to be that bad, and then after the scan, we knew how many weeks I was going to be out.

“Just taking it day by day and seeing how it went, but it ended up being six or seven weeks, which we had to be careful when coming back, and not wanting to come back too soon.

“Touch wood, everything has been ok so far, and I'm back building up my minutes.

“It was hard, I think, being away in Italy and trying to get minutes under your belt and trying to get fit for the season ahead. A new manager coming and just trying to prove yourself, and then getting an injury is quite hard.

“Having it at the start of the season allowed me to take the time that I needed, and coming i,n Leanne [Crichton] was completely fine with the process of how it was going to go.

“It was quite a frustrating one because you never know what symptoms are going to flare up, but it is just nice to be back training with the team and playing at the weekend.

“It has been really nice to be back.

“I think just being out for that period of time, especially at the start of the season, it is quite hard to keep yourself going and stuff when you just want to be on the pitch with the team, but it has been really nice to be back and playing and building up my minutes.”

The 24-year-old has reflected on a summer of change at the club, with several ins and outs during a busy period, but she feels that it has brought the squad closer together and eager to kick on.

She continued: “I think there are maybe two sides to it.

“A lot of players are going out the door, but I think it has really brought us together in the way that we want to work and the way that we want to get results, because it is quite hard with players leaving, but we have brought in really good players to replace them.

“We are just looking to learn more about each other, but doing it step by step and building on it each week.

“Working with Leanne? It has been really nice. I knew as soon as she was appointed that she was going to do a good job.

“I have worked with her at Scotland before, she I kind of knew the relationships that I had with her and coming in, I knew the girls were going to get on with her really well.

“What she has implemented so far has been good, and hopefully we can just build on that.

“Her being a player, and especially in our league, really does help.

“She knows the opposition, and she has been at several different clubs, so she knows the ins and outs of what teams might bring.

“Especially being a player, she has worked with some of the players that we are playing against, so it is really fine detail that she goes into, and it is something that we really thrive off going into games at the weekend.”

The Gers are back on home soil tomorrow afternoon when they host Hamilton at Ibrox, with Eddie hopeful the team can bounce back from defeats in their last two league outings to then kick on after the first break in the season.

She added: “It is really good to be playing at the stadium, especially with loads of players being Rangers fans growing up and doing that in front of their families.

“It is good to build on last season, where maybe it was only a couple of times, but everyone really enjoys playing there and especially training here on the grass. It is a really good facility, and we just need to make sure that we are getting results.

“Perspective? I think that it is, and especially we are coming from games and we are learning a lot, but we are taking positives at the same time.

“We just need to focus on the next one and not get too caught up because, like the seasons before, the league can change so much in one game. We just focus on the next game and hopefully everything will take care of itself.

“I think we need to learn a lot from the past two games.

“It has just been one goal that has split the difference, and going into this game at the weekend, hopefully we can turn things around before the international break.

“It being at Ibrox, back training on the grass, everyone is looking forward to i,t and hopefully we can go into the international break strong.”

You can still get your hands on tickets for the fixture tomorrow here, kicking off at 14:00 in Glasgow.
