The young Gers travelled to Forthbank Stadium today where they took all three points in the league campaign, and the B team assistant coach took time to reflect on their positive away performance.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV following their win, he said: “There are loads of positives to take from the game.
"If you look at the quality of goals that the lads scored, I thought the build-up play and finishing was a real positive.
"We always know that it’s going to be tough and a lot of credit to Stirling University, I thought that they had energy and caused us a bit of trouble, we came through it managed to get the away result.
“There was lots of opportunity in the final third without having the end part of it, we spoke at half time about the time we spend getting towards goal.
"It takes a little bit of magic later in the second half to go and get the breakthrough in the first half.”
The hosts fought back in the second half to gain the equaliser, but Gilmour believes that the young Gers remained focussed to find the lead once more.
He added: “We were pleased with the start to the second half, they took our information on board, and we played with control higher up the pitch.
"We saw more attempts to threaten the backline and box, their goal comes from a set play which we are disappointed about, but the boys didn’t switch their style and the game settled back into what it was before the goals.
“The second goal from Ross McCausland had a bit of quality from it, Stirling were still trying to create opportunities and try and get that equaliser – I thought that the boys held out well from that.
“It’s about us trying to find our way out and play with some rhythm and areas across the pitch with a purpose to go forward. I thought it was the result that we deserved.”
