The Gers head coach says it is vital Rangers face challenges such as this as they continue to develop and grow as a squad.
Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “I think it will be the ultimate test given the lengths of Chelsea last year getting in the Champions League final so it will be a massive test for us.
“It is one we want to embrace and one that will challenge us and we are really looking forward to it.
“It is vitally important they want to play at the highest level and we want to perform at the highest level so having tests against a team like Chelsea it will be really important for us going forward.
“We need to be subjected to those stressful situations and we are able to handle it for confidence more than anything.”
Thomson has been pleased with the fitness levels of his side as they kicked-off their first competitive fixture with an 8-0 victory over Queen’s Park in the SWPL Cup last weekend.
He continued: “They have managed to sustain the levels in training, albeit there is an element of fatigue in there but that again is another part of being a professional player.
“You need to be able to handle that approach mentally and turn up for sessions and they are designed to all relate towards the game.
“We work back from the game so the load we are looking for from the girls is specifically set out in the training week.
