The young Gers were impressive from start to finish against an experienced League Two outfit, whom they also got the better of earlier this campaign in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
It was a performance which sets the side up nicely for next week’s SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-final clash against Queen’s Park, with the Light Blues keen to extend their run in that competition.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Thomson said of the display this evening: “It was a pretty comfortable win. We demanded a real standard from the boys prior to the game.
“We asked them to show a good appetite and enthusiasm which we definitely saw.
“The one bit that we questioned them on was taking chances; we didn’t manage to score as much as we wanted despite having control of the ball in the first half.
“At 1-0, Mason [Munn] makes two fantastic saves, so it certainly wasn’t an easy game to win.
“It was a game which we certainly controlled, but Mason has had to make two big saves which helped the boys go on and win the game.”
The game was punctuated by yet another strike from Findlay Curtis, while Paul Nsio and Archie Stevens added to the scoresheet with a pair of fantastic strikes after the interval.
Indeed, the goal extended Curtis’ impressive streak infront of goal this campaign, which Thomson believes is the result of his exposure to the first-team training environment.
He continued: “Findlay, again, is just a player who enjoys playing football.
“You can see his movement and the way he gets on the ball; he’s attack-minded and he’ll go and dip the shoulder in 1v1 situations.
“What is also helping Findlay is that he’s regularly training with the first-team.
“He’s getting round and being in with the senior professionals.
“He’s picking up bits and bobs off them and those habits that are created round at the first-team side.”
Thomson also reserved a special mention for the other two goalscorers, with Nsio shining in midfield and Stevens making an undoubted impact off the substitutes bench.
He added: “Obviously Zak Lovelace started the game and Archie [Stevens] was a little bit disappointed not to start.
“He had to come off the bench and he showed a great positive attitude. We spoke to him before the game about the reasons why, but he came on and really tuned himself into the game, played well, and got his goal.
“It’s also worth mentioning that Paul Nsio had an outstanding game.
“His energy and desire to get about the pitch, whether that be in possession or out of possession, was second to none.”
