It was a controlled display from the young Gers throughout, with Findlay Curtis’ early opener providing the perfect foothold in the contest.
And the Light Blues never relented in the second period, doubling their advantage with a strike from Paul Nsio before Archie Stevens put the icing on the cake not long after.
Next up for the young Gers is next week’s crucial SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-final clash away to Queen’s Park.
Rangers lined up with the inclusions of Alex Lowry, Bailey Rice and Zak Lovelace from the off, while there was a start for Clinton Nsiala in defence.
Just as it transpired in the SPFL Trust Trophy clash between the pair in August, it was the Gers who made the brighter start as they sought an avenue through the Clyde rearguard.
Indeed, a delicious give-and-go between Zak Lovelace and Bailey Rice almost engineered an opener, although the former could only scoop his finish over the crossbar from close range.
Clyde certainly brought an experienced team, including several players formerly of the Rangers Academy.
But they soon fell behind as the Gers worked a perfect opening through Findlay Curtis, whose persistence on the left-hand side allowed him to drive inside the penalty area and curl a delicious finish into the far corner.
It continued the 18-year-old’s remarkable goalscoring campaign after he netted a hat-trick in the 5-0 victory over Partick Thistle in the side’s previous outing in the competition.
Josh Gentles was next to try his luck when he latched onto a loose ball in the Clyde defensive third, shifting the ball onto his unfavoured left side before drawing a comfortable stop from Milosz Sliwinski.
Rangers ought to have strengthened their lead before the half-time interval when they broke menacingly towards the visitors’ goal, but Gentles couldn’t quite move the ball across to Alex Lowry who found himself in acres of space.
Only two minutes had elapsed in the second period when the Light Blues doubled their advantage to alleviate any concerns over the scoreline.
The goal transpired from a wicked Bailey Rice free-kick which cannoned off the crossbar, ricocheting back out to the edge of the penalty area before Nsio darted into space and rifled a low, driven finish into the bottom corner.
Archie Stevens, who was introduced in the first half in place of Zak Lovelace, was causing all sorts of havoc down the right-hand side, drawing a fine stop from Sliwinski at his near post.
However, the Englishman wasn’t to be denied too long as he stretched Rangers’ advantage on 68 minutes, pouncing on a loose pass from Clyde and, much like his compatriot Nsio, picking out a gorgeous finish into the bottom corner.
That proved the cue for introduction of Cameron Scott and Lewis Stewart, both of whom continue to impress at Under-18 level.
Unfortunately, there was to be no clean sheet for the Light Blues after Leyton Grant contrived to nod into his own net after a delivery from the left-hand side.
It was to matter little, however, as the Gers comfortably saw out the latter stages to make it two wins from two in this season’s group stage campaign.
