It was an impressive display from Gers at Broadwood which saw 10 different goalscoers, but Thomson said it is now up to the squad to maintain their high standards moving forward this season.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I think we were really disciplined for the 90 minutes, we stuck to our principles and gave a real professional performance.
“We have had a great pre-season, our attention to detail has been great, there was a control in it and we were patient with what we did.
“If we are going to be hyper-critical we probably weren’t as clinical as we could’ve been but I think that will come the more we play and the more we gel together as a team.
“Now it is about how the players go away home and what they do to come back down and keep an even keel in their lifestyle away from the pitch. We will be back into training on Tuesday and we will go again.
“We just take care of each individual part of that and the detail of it, we'll train in preparation for our next game against Aberdeen.”
With a crowd of 720 at Broadwood, Thomson was pleased to see such a strong backing to the game this afternoon.
He continued: “It was great, I think the Euros has really sparked it off and you see all the young kids here with their mums and dads and it was good.
“Our girls went over and were part of it because at the end of the day it is entertainment and the product has got to be good on the pitch which it certainly was today, It is up to us to maintain that and keep those standards high.”
