Following last weekend’s postponement, the Light Blues will get their league campaign underway on Sunday as they face newly-promoted Hamilton at New Douglas Park.
Thomson was speaking to the media this morning ahead of the opening match, he said: “Obviously our first game was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances around Covid but the squad are really accepting of the world we live in now and what it really means to be at Rangers and be a professional.
“Every time we play in a competitive match we have to focus on winning the game. Going forward it is about us being as professional as we are, taking each game in it's own merit and having respect for the opposition but if it is a competitive match we are there to try and win it.
“We were really fortunate to get Manchester United and Chelsea up in pre-season and we managed to get a game against Everton as well so it really sparked people's interest in what we are doing. I think the players have taken that responsibility on board and hopefully this season we can really put on some good performances for the fans.”
With six Rangers players named in the Scotland squad for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Gers boss believes it acts as motivation for the whole squad.
He continued: “It is always important to get the opportunity to represent your country but it is not just the players that have actually managed to get into this squad. As you know there's a wealth of talent available so it will really motivate the ones that have been doing well, the likes of Brogan Hay and obviously Lizzie Arnot who hasn't quite made that squad for whatever reason.
“There's a real motivational factor around the rest of the squad and it is for the girls who have been called-up and it is by merit they have done that.”
